Carefully choose your route

Sometimes the stage will open with an arrow made of coins or a line of coins running through obstacles. Your first instinct might be to line your bird up and let it go, but taking a few seconds to see what else is around will often reveal a better route for your bird. As you can see in the screenshots above, Red was left with no option but to collect the last two candies after running straight up the middle.

Break stuff

Sometimes the best strategy is to aim your bird into a packed corner and see how much damage it can do. Breaking obstacles on the board results in a higher score and, most important, more coins for you, meaning you will receive treasure chests faster. If you have an easy board and think you can spare some moves, see how big of a score you can rack up before completing the main objective. As you can see above, most of the obstacles have been broken and the coins collected, and Red still has two moves remaining.

Save your gems

Although using gems to buy keys can be enticing, it is better to save gems to revive your birds when you run out of lives. You will often find yourself in a position where you could finish the stage if you had one more move. Good thing you saved up, right? The number of gems required to revive your birds increases each time you run out of lives on the same board. The number resets when you complete a stage.

Choose the right bird

  • Red: The standard, starter bird with no special powers.
  • Bomb: Blows up the first object he hits. Use Bomb when you have a large obstacle in the way of an egg.
  • Chuck: Stops time as he runs, meaning you can bypass fans and weave your way through moving obstacles.
  • Terence: When Terence gets on a roll, he's hard to stop. Use him to bowl through groups of obstacles, potentially clearing a path for your other birds.

Return to stages that have fewer than three stars

Retracing your steps is never a bad idea. Although you will not receive a second key for the one or two stars you've already received, you will receive a key for extra stars you bring in. Returning to stages without three stars also gives you an opportunity to use special powers received in later stages. You can attempt to achieve three stars on a stage as many times as you want, as long as you have enough energy.
