Snapchat's secret filter: double the dogs, double the fun

If 2014 was the year of the selfie, then 2016 is definitely the year of the Snapchat dog filter (although it doesn't quite roll off the tongue like "year of the selfie" does). If you have no idea what I'm talking about, just tap on Instagram and search #dogfilter to see the plethora of people posing as their perfect little pooch.

But around a week or so ago, social media giant and super polarizing queen of the internet, Kim K, made a request asking Snapchat for a new dog filter, "like, a dalmatian, or a chihuahua." It appears Snapchat was listening, because this week the app rolled out a secret double-dog filter.

While most users first complained that the double dog was a glitch (sometimes the dalmatian ears and the original dog ears stick to one person in the frame, rather than sticking to two separate people), it quickly appeared that Snapchat had hidden a little Easter egg in its last update.

How do I use the dalmatian filter?

Just like you would the dog filter, open the front-facing camera and press and hold on your face until you're recognized by the app. Swipe through the lenses until you find the dog face.

Now grab your BFF and squish into frame! Both faces should get recognized to produce the dalmatian ears and nose (it may take a few times to get this going smoothly, so don't get discouraged).

How do I get the double dog but only on myself?

This only happens if the app glitches. It's not an uncommon thing; if you're moving around quite a bit, the lenses may not have a chance to properly recognize your face, causing the glitch.

But it's not working for me at all…

Try taking a step back and repositioning you and your friend/movie poster/doll. If all else fails, grab a selfie stick so you can be sure you really don't mess up the coveted double dog.

Now you're ready to go out and start double dog-ing! In the meantime, what other filters would you love see to see Snapchat embrace (and which ones do you think have secrets hidden within them?!)
