How to create a new Nintendo account on Switch

One of the first things you should do when setting up a Nintendo Switch console of choice is create a new Nintendo account if you don't already have one. You will need it to get into the eShop to buy games, watch videos, and play demos. While there are some features of the eShop available without an account, one is necessary to purchase games. Let's get you set up!

How to set up your Nintendo account

1. Select the eShop icon from the Home screen on your Nintendo Switch OLED, Nintendo Switch, or Nintendo Switch Lite characterized by the orange shopping bag.

2. Select your User profile.

3. Select Link a Nintendo Account when asked to sign into your Nintendo account.

4. Select Create Account when asked to sign in to your Nintendo account.

5. Select Send account creation instructions via e-mail.

6. Enter your information, including birthday and email address.

7. Using a computer or smart device, open the email from Nintendo.

8. Click the link in the email to create a Nintendo account.

9. Select Add an account for myself.

10. Enter the relevant account information.

11. Hit Submit when you're finished. When you've created your account, you'll be given a five-digit code to enter on your Nintendo Switch.

12. Go back to your Switch and enter the five-digit code.

13. In the setup screen, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select Continue.

14. Choose whether you want to always enter your password, or skip your password login while using the Switch.

Once your Nintendo account is all set up, you can add funds to it so all you have to do is hit the "Buy" button when you're ready.
